Friday Knight News – Gaming Edition: 15-JUN-2012

Ah Friday. Sure, it’s going to be hot here in Colorado. Sure, we have at least three big wildfires burning at the moment and we’re not yet to July. But hey – it’s Friday at least! My heart goes out to anyone close to the wildfires here in Colorado or elsewhere in the US or abroad. As if politics, the economy, and other cheery world events weren’t enough to worry about. Now Mother Nature is wielding a giant magnifying glass trying to fry us one fire at a time.

On that cheerful note, do you know what tomorrow is? Free RPG Day 2012! That should take our mind off all that other stuff for a while. ๐Ÿ™‚ (Check out this podcast for plenty of details over at OgreCave. Or check out this article at Fantasy Flight Games’ site about their entry for this year’s free game celebration – Only War: Eleventh Hour.)

And I know my favorite local game store, Petries Family Games, will not only have all the goodies from this year’s haul, but will also be running several tables where folks can try out a few RPGs like Shadowrun, Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG, Pathfinder, D&D, Harn, Warhammer 40k and Warhammer 40k Deathwatch, Cosmic Patrol, and Brass & Steel. Five separate tables of gaming fun running from 10am to close (last game starts at 7pm)!

Be sure to check out the Free RPG Day website for all the details and a quick way to search for participating retailers in your area.

I started to get back on track with a few articles this week here at GKR. We took a look at Isle of the Unknown from Geof McKinney and Lamentations of the Flame Princess, the Gassy Gnoll asked why we all can’t just get along, and then I dove into combat in the DCC RPG.

Beyond that, I had a chance to interview Geof McKinney, author of Carcosa and Isle of the Unknown for Lamentations of the Flame Princess. Geof lives about an hour south of me in Pueblo and we had a nice chat for a couple of hours last weekend. We talked about a bit of his background, about Carcosa and IotU, and even asked some fan questions from the LotFP forums. All the videos will eventually go live at over the next few weeks, but for now you can enjoy yours truly asking quite a few questions of Geof! (A big thank you goes to Ed Healy @ Gamerati for setting up the interview and Geof for being a good sport and answering my laundry list of questions!)

Now that I’ve scared you with my gruesome visage, why don’t we actually move on to the news?

As the bulk of this article was approaching 3000 words, I decided I’d just do another “uncategorized” list this week…

Thatโ€™s it for this week on the news front. If you want a bit more, check out:

Thereโ€™s definitely plenty of news go go around!

On the congratulations front, I have to congratulate Jay “Pointyman2000” Anyong, the creator of BADASS and its one year anniversary last Friday!! Congrats Jay! When are we going to see more BADASS titles? ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope everybody has a great weekend!

As always, if you feel I missed something (and it would be impossible NOT to), drop me a quick note via the contact page or drop me an e-mail at news(at)gameknightreviews(dot)com and I’ll add it to the list for next week!

  • Heya, Fitz! I’ll be at Petries tomorrow as well. Hope you manage to pull in a large haul of goodies like I plan on doing. Gotta pick up the goods, so I can review it all.

Maybe we’ll run into each other while there. Enjoy the freebies! I know I will.

PS: Don’t forget to buy something while you’re there.

@Hungry – Awesome! I’m hoping to play a bit and always look around to see what’s new to pick up while I’m there. Looking forward to the freebies though!!
